Why Job Searching is like Dating

So you're in the mood for love! Or is it a steady income that you seek? Here are 5 tips to help you in both, from the male perspective.

1. Know Her Name
When writing a cover letter, do not simply state "To whom it may concern". If you see a position you want to apply for, don't be afraid to call their HR department and ask for the name you should address the cover letter to. Not much else is worse than forgetting their name. Except for getting the name wrong.

2. No Begging
Has there ever been a girl who said yes to, "Please date me! Please, please, pleeeeaaaase?! I want you so much!" Not attractive. Likewise, do not beg at the interview for the position. Give reasons why you consider yourself the best fit for the position.

3. You Pay
If you're the dude, don't start off cheap. Likewise, if you're going in for a lunch interview then be ready to foot the bill. It sends the message that you're grateful for the opportunity to meet about future professional prospects with them.

4. Wait Three Days
Whether or not you actually wait three days before calling a date back, you should give yourself time to follow-up with a prospective employer. This could be shortly after submitting a resume, or thanking them for that lunch (try to make that one happen within 24 hours).

5. Say Something and Listen
It's always good to have something ready to say about yourself. It's also important to listen to what they say; their goals, values, challenges.

Hope this helps in your pursuit(s)!
