Re-engineering Student Ministry

Trevin Wax, managing editor of The Gospel Project, recently interviewed Jeff Bethke of the "Why I Hate Religion/Love Jesus" fame, to discuss the project and student ministry. Watch below:

I find it most fascinating that what Jeff says about connecting with students and youth is very true. I've been involved with and love putting on events and programs for fellow students, but at the end of the day a student will not come back because of any smokes and mirrors you set before them.

Authenticity in relationships through programs and development happens when the truth is expounded upon to the realities we face daily. We won't remember what was said at an event, but we will remember the person who pulls us aside, looks us in the eyes, and tells us something we desperately need to hear.

A small drink, a little puff, a tiny kiss. The state of student ministry is not making things appear small. Likewise we don't need to blow things up to appear bigger than they appear, because the reality is they actually are.
